Micron Teams Up with Local High Schools for Semi-Annual Adopt-A-Stream Effort

Manassas, VA , Thursday, May 10, 2007 – Micron Technology will host a semi-annual Adopt-A-Stream clean up on Saturday, May 12, 2007. Micron employees, their families and area high school students will volunteer to remove litter from Broad Run Stream in an effort to improve, protect and support local waterways.

Micron also has invited employees to bring their children to participate in environmental, technology and science activities. Children in grades Kindergarten through 6 will engage in on-site scientific and environmental experiments while their family members clean the stream. Students from partner high schools will facilitate these challenging and educational learning activities.

Prior to the event, Micron invited area high school students to submit their artwork for the Micron Adopt-A-Stream 2007 T-Shirt Design Contest. With more than 50 artwork submissions, two winners were selected and each was awarded a green IPod® nano. Forest Park student Breanna Farr’s design will appear on the event t-shirt while Freedom High School student Ronald Carpio’s design will grace Micron’s Environmental Activity Book for the children participating in Saturday’s environmental experiments.

Micron joined the Adopt-A-Stream program in the fall of 2006. Twenty-eight Micron team members and 12 area high school students worked diligently during the first stream clean up, Branch to Cannon Creek, on Saturday, November 4, 2006. A total of 2,070 pounds of trash, including tires and pipes, were removed.

In March 2007, Micron Technology’s Virginia site was accepted into the Virginia Environmental Excellence Program (VEEP) and recognized as an Extraordinary Environmental Enterprise. This induction recognizes Micron's development and implementation of a strong environmental management system that works to reduce pollution and promote technological advancements.

Committed to quality, environmental protection and occupational safety, Micron Technology Virginia is an environmental steward and collaborates with the community to develop environmental programs that surpass legal standards.
