President Bush Recognizes Micron Technology for Helping Grow Economy Through Continued Investment

Manassas, VA. , Tuesday, February 06, 2007 – President George W. Bush today visited Micron Technology’s state-of-the-art fabrication facility here and told an employee audience that Micron is helping support the national economy through continued investment and job creation in states such as Virginia.

"One thing about Micron is that it is clear the role of government is to encourage investment and enhance educational opportunities,” Bush said to about 150 Micron employees. “When you walk through the halls of this innovative company, it’s pretty clear to me that you need to know what you’re doing for a company to survive and thrive like this.”

Prior to speaking to employees and dignitaries about his 2007 federal budget proposal, President Bush was escorted on a tour of the facility by Micron Chief Executive Officer Steve Appleton. The recent $3.5 billion upgrade of the Manassas plant to 300 millimeter capability has resulted in the creation of more than 1,000 new jobs at the site in the past year. Micron manufacturers both DRAM memory and NAND flash memory at the facility.

“It’s an honor for Micron to host President Bush at our Manassas site,” said Appleton. “We believe in the innovation and ingenuity of the American workforce, and we continue to invest not only in Virginia, but also at our other U.S. locations.”
