SINGAPORE, July 23, 2008 – Numonyx B.V., a leading nonvolatile memory company, today announced it has established its Global Distribution Centre in Singapore. The centre was inaugurated by Mr Manohar Khiatani, Assistant Managing Director, Singapore Economic Development Board.
“The new centre of logistics excellence will provide Numonyx significant supply chain efficiencies that will enhance our business competitiveness. Our back-end manufacturing sites, as well as large number of our customers and subcontractors, are based in Asia. Locating our global distribution centre in this region will help us achieve faster time to market, which is critical for our customers,” said Mr Mathieu Clerkx, Senior Vice President, General Manager for Global Infrastructure, Numonyx.
Singapore was selected for its central location, strong logistics infrastructure, excellent connectivity to global airports and its stable and progressive political environment. Numonyx has a strong commitment to outsource support activities so the company can focus on its core competency of developing and manufacturing memory technologies. As such, DHL has been appointed as the company’s strategic logistics service provider to manage all related inbound and outbound traffic of finished goods.
Mr Clerkx added, “The semiconductor industry is heavily reliant on its global supply chain. It is estimated that a single semiconductor travels up to 40,000 kilometres during its production process before being shipped to the end-customer. Given our expertise as a hi-tech manufacturing company, we needed an established partner with a global footprint to assist us procure and distribute our products. By outsourcing the logistics component to DHL, we are able to accelerate internal optimization and supply chain re-engineering. We are also able to focus on our core manufacturing business and at the same, create a differentiated menu of services to cater to the requirements for our customers in the various market segments.”
